Week 3: Trying to drop the pounds? Drink Water!

How does it work?

1.) Makes you feel full. Drinking a cup of water before you eat takes up space in your stomach and makes you feel full, helping you to not overeat and feel satisfied!

2.) Burns fat more efficiently. Your body needs water to help turn fat into energy. If you are dehydrated, your body cannot burn fat efficiently.

3.) Prevents your body from confusing thirst with hunger. When dehydrated or thirsty, you might feel hungry. But a lot of the times, your body is just thirsty and just wants water.

How much water should you drink?

Weight  divided by 2 = amount of water in oz per day

Ex. 140/2= 70 ounces or around 8 to 9 cups of water per day.  (1cup= 8oz)

Keep in mind: The amount of water a person should drink varies depending on the individuals weight and intensity of daily activity. Just use equation above to get an idea about how much water you should be drinking but adjust the amount to what feels right for your body. If you feel like a ballon and your pee is super clear, you are probably drinking too much water. But if your pee is yellow and your skin is dry and looks dehydrated, drink up buddy!

Tips to Drink More Water

1. Drink  water in small amounts throughout the day instead of a few times in huge quantities. Your body can only absorb so much water at one time. Chugging down a whole bottle water at one time does not help because you will end up peeing out the rest of what your body does not absorb.

2.) Drinking herbal tea is also a great way to get you to drink more water! My favorite is apple cider spice tea and Tazo Vanilla Rooibos!

3.) Add fruits or flavors to your water. I love to add lemons, or strawberries to my water! If you need a little bit of a refresher, add mint and cucumbers to your water!

4.) Buy a fun or cute water bottle. Honestly, if you have a cute bottle you are going to want to carry it around with you and if your water bottle is conveniently near by, the chances of you remembering to drink water is much more likely.

 3 Healthier Alcoholic Drinks

When trying to lose weight, it is best to stay away from alcohol. However, if its a special occasion and you want to celebrate with family or friends, there are a few healthier alcoholic drink options that are better than others.

1.) Vodka and Club soda. 90-100 cal

2)  White Wine. 90-140 cal

3.) Guinness. 126 cal (12oz)

Just remember, try not to drink more than 1 to 2 glasses. If you do, it would not matter if you drank a healthier or lower in calorie drink. Calories add up! Also, alcohol inhibits your senses, making you more likely to snack and eat more!

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Years Eve!
